Elite ice hockey league CIHL is the first full contact league in Hong Kong covering the South China region.
With its mission to develop ice hockey both in Hong Kong and throughout the region, the CIHL has taken a holistic approach to its programs and activities and has founded a number of initiatives to reach hockey players of all levels.
The CIHL's Adopt a School Program began in the league’s inaugural season in 2011-2012. The popular program invites schools from across Hong Kong to experience a CIHL game night. Each season approximately 300 students attend a CIHL double header with optional educational activities including pre or post-game school visits, Q&As with CIHL players and opportunities to take part in the between-the-games shootout. For many students, the CIHL is their first opportunity to experience ice hockey and the league is proud to say that several students have since taken up the game, either on ice or in a ball hockey league. During the 2014-2015 season, the Adopt a School Program expanded to Macau.
The much-heralded CIHL Intern Program is currently in its fourth season. Each season, the CHIL selects up to four graduating hockey players from Canada or the United States to continue their hockey careers with the CIHL, while gaining international work experience and giving back to the sport by coaching youth hockey. Each year, the program sees an increase in applicants, with many of the interns continuing to live and work in Hong Kong following their internships.
The CIHL also plays an active role in coaching and instructing ice hockey in Hong Kong at all levels and supports numerous programs, clubs and organizations including the Hong Kong Typhoons and the Women’s Ice Hockey Organization. In its partnerships with the Hong Kong U18 National Team, the CIHL has helped developed some of the SAR’s brightest talents, with these talented youths gaining acceptance to prestigious Canadian hockey schools.
This year, the CIHL is delighted to announce the Junior Tigers and its Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Programs. The Junior Tigers is the next step in the CIHL’s expansion and its commitment to developing ice hockey in Hong Kong, emphasizing a strong skating and hockey foundation from which to build more advanced skills.
In the Junior Tigers' Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Programs certified coaches from Canada, the United States and Hong Kong will work with children aged 4 and up to develop their basic skating and hockey skills.
